Sage Pay’s merchant account offer is in association with our acquiring partner Elavon. The advantages of the offer are that we can act as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for your payment processing and the pricing plan is designed for start-up businesses (no set-up fee, no minimum monthly fee, and no long term contract).

One possible drawback is that it can take a bit longer to set up the merchant account than if you went directly to your business bank for one. The timescale is around 4 weeks and Elavon will require quite a few supporting documents with your application, but this is because of the nature of start-up businesses and because they don’t have an existing banking relationship with you.

We’ve tried to make the set up process as simple and easy as possible and we have a team of merchant services advisors to guide you through the whole process. If you are interested in Sage Pay or our merchant services and have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them for you.

Contact is support@sagepay.com and make the email for the attention of Adam Blacklock.

    Excuse me, but BULL****!!!!!!!

I recommended that a friend of mine (www.campandfish.co.uk) move from Paypal Pro to Sagepay and he has been trying to set this up for over 6 weeks now. He has dealt with SagePay and Elavon who after making him jump through every hoop possible has told him they can't help him.

Natwest and Streamline just aren't interested, in fact Natwest won;t even open a business account for him.

He has since sorted something out with an alternate merchant account provider and will still deal via Sagepay once he gets his merchant numbers, but I find it ludicrous that a business should have to battle like this to get basic payment processes in place.

For christ sakes, he didn't ask for a loan/overdraft or investment, just simple banking facilities of the modern world.

You would think with all the job losses as the moment and people starting up their own businesses, the banks would be chomping at the bit to get this relatively loss risk business.

EKM: Please feel free to pass this on to SagePay.

  3. Default Hi Guys

I found Sage to be really slow at doing anything. I applied for their facilities as well as the merchant accounts. I had to call them back 2 weeks later asking what happened to the 48 hour turn around time... Not happy!!!! They then said I needed to complete another form for the merchant accounts because the one "they sent me" never arrived but in order to do this I had to log onto the system and re-register my interest. Painful!!!!
I duly did as requested and returned the forms AGAIN....anther week or two go by... Hello Sage where are my accounts etc???? Sorry but you need to do a 5 page business plan, get a letter of reccomendation from the bank and a whole load of other BS!.

Exit Elevon.. By the way I bank with Santander.... Not Happy.

Enter another outfit. Same deal as Elevon but signed me up within a week and came to me to do the paperwork. And guess what they also have a deal with Sage but I don't have to deal with Elevon. My shop has been running over a year and a half now.

I think that the majority of payment providers are being vigilent even though they shouldn't be. If your direct debit fails, then all they have to do is cut you off, which obviously they should have the right to do as long as they have warned you. So why should it be so difficult to use these facilities unless you do have a bad credit rating but where there's a will there's a way!

    Hi All,

I seemed to have opened up a big can of worms there, (no pun intended campandfish), just though I would give you a bit of an update. I decided to go for Paypal pro in the end, at least for the interim.

I had already verified my account and have a business account with HSBC which the paypal account is linked to. (not sure if that makes any difference though) I had to do a phone interview and upload a photo of my passport, they said they will let me know in two weeks.

The interview was very simple, questions around customer serivce, terms and a very very difficult question about cardholder data, "what will you do with sensitive information?"

So lets see hopefully this will be set up soon.
