Thread: Ticketing for Sports Events

  1. Default Ticketing for Sports Events

    hi all EKMers.

i am in talks with a sports body about providing ticketing solutions for their matches through my online shop (a cheaper alternative to TicketMaster).

they have a few big home matches every year, getting between 3000-6000 per match. with an average ticket price of £35, this is obviously a lot of money to process through my site. even a single match per year of 3000 people would bring a revenue of about £90k-£100k to process.

i can set up tickets no problem on my site, and allocate seats and all that malarky ok.

the problem i have at the minute is in finding the right company to handle the payment processing. i just use PayPal at the minute, but if i get this ticketing deal I would be looking for something like a Sagepay account or Nochex account or Paypal pro. Does anyone have any experience of the fees they would charge for processing this much money? or feedback in general!

another possible problem would be issuing refunds to customers. if the match is cancelled, i would need to issue refunds to all customers who already bought tickets. my basic paypal account only lets me refund customers who ordered within the last 2 months. if i get this ticketing deal, the tickets would be on sale about 3-4 months before the event and is likely to sell out before match day arrives.can sagepay or nochex or paypal extend this refund period, or make a tailor made solution for me?

its a lot of money to process, so need to make sure i get it right first time.

    all help welcome!
    thanks

How would all this extra affect your bandwidth? you may have to pay extra for your site :-(

i presume if i reach my bandwidth allowance, EKM can increase it and bill me accordingly?

Sagepay is looking the best option, a flat rate of 2.5% (plus set up costs).

Are you a member of the FSB?

If you sign up (costs just over £100 I think) you get free setup for your merchant account through Stremline and much better rates for payment fees (we're currently getting 1.89%)0.6% might not sound alot, but it soon adds up, and the free setup also saves a bit too. We then use Sagepay as the gateway which is at a fixed £20 per month.
