View Full Version : Getting people to buy
Hi
I just set up a new shop, although I am starting to get people to visit my shop so far no buyers, is there anything I can do to make it more likely to get customers to buy such as special offers!
Hi Pagan
It looks like we are in the same business and have the same supplier :D
How long has your shop been running for?
There is a lot of competition out there at the moment for Witchcraft sites. I am finding that not many people are buying but if you spend a couple of hours looking at your competition and seeing what they are doing then it might give you some ideas to make you site more unique.
Hi
The shop has been running just over a month so still new at this, thinking about adding to suppliers to get more different items in shop.
I've noticed that you don't have delivery prices on the site that would put people off.
Also if you have a look at your keywords and meta tags, its situated under marketing, you need to choose keywords that people would search for when looking for your items.
If you want have a look at mine, if you go to view on your task bar and click source you will see my meta tags and keywords, but no copying ;) its just to give you an idea of what you are looking for.
As for adding suppliers its best to think out of the box and try to get unique items that are hard to find :)
Hi

i dont have delivery prices on my website because my rates are worked out by weight of the total order, so the exact postage is charged for every order rather than over charge on some and undercharge on others. just wondering how you would get round this if you say not having postage prices put people off.

I would have thought the best option is to put information on the homepage explaining how postage works stating postage starts at £?? up to a maximum of £?? just to give people an idea?

I've found 'HTML with XHTML and CSS' by Elizabeth Castro very good - I knew absolutely nothing before buying this (still not exactly an expert, but it's very good for the basics!)

I did use to charge by weight but found that I had a lot of people abandoning carts, so I changed it to a fixed price.
When i was charging by weight i had a table showing weights and prices and on each item i had what it weighed so that people had a clue as to how much it would cost for postage.

"HTML for the World Wide Web" by Elizabeth Castro is an excellent book that has been around for many years, it's been updated many times, no idea what the latest revision is. I use to run a mailing list (back in the days before forums like this) and it's one that got recommended time after time for those with none or some knowledge of HTML and even for those that needed a source for reference later on. Buy it, you wont regret it.
............ and no I'm not on commission. :D

If you know the weight of each product or could estimate it then you could use the 'product weight' option in the delivery settings. This would then caculate accurate carriage once you have set the postage parameters etc. I know it is a hassle to update each product but I agree that no delivery charges would put people off so worth the time going through each product.

this is what i already do, i was replying to the post where they say that they put their postage prices on the website so people can see how much they charge.
